For the North Atlantic…Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

Active Systems:
The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane
Beryl, located several hundred miles east of the Windward Islands.

1. Southwestern Gulf of Mexico (AL94):

  • A broad area of low pressure is over the Bay of Campeche with disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions  appear generally conducive for further development, and a short-lived tropical depression could form before the system moves inland over Mexico on Monday.
  • Interests along the Gulf coast of Mexico should monitor the progress of this system.
  • Regardless of development, heavy rainfall associated with the area of low pressure will continue affect portions of Central America and Mexico through early next week.
  • An Air Force reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system later today, if necessary.
  • Formation chance through 48 hours…medium…50 percent.
  • Formation chance through 7 days…medium…50 percent.

2. Eastern Tropical Atlantic:

  • Satellite-derived surface wind data indicate that an area of low pressure located several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands has become better organized.
  • Environmental conditions appear conducive for additional development of this system, and a tropical depression is likely to form by the midweek while it moves generally westward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.
  • Formation chance through 48 hours…medium…40 percent.
  • Formation chance through 7 days…high…70 percent.
