HUMAN EVENTS: The Democrats will not protect you when their agenda is at stake

At last month’s Democratic National Convention, amidst the flood of cringey fake “joy,” one serious moment stood out: Jon Polin and Rachel Goldberg, parents of Hamas hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin, gave an impassioned plea for a ceasefire and the return of their only son, sparking thunderous chants of “Bring them home” from the assembled delegates. Tragically, this was not to be; we now know that the American body found among the six murdered hostages by Israeli soldiers in Rafah belonged to Hersh Goldberg-Polin.

At times like this, Americans naturally look to their government to punish those responsible for murdering one of our own, and to ensure that such a thing cannot happen again. Despite the Biden administration’s past dithering and active attempts to tie the Israelis’ hands in the Israel-Hamas war, surely this was a turning point which only the most blinkered Leftist could ignore. And at first, signs were somewhat encouraging, as President Biden and Vice President Harris headed to the Situation Room to try to negotiate a deal for the hostages. Allegedly, they were “working around the clock” for this result. Yet now, even after it’s clear that the only son of two grieving parents who begged for his life from the floor of the DNC had been murdered on their watch, who did President Biden blame for the hostages not being home yet? The same person as always: Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu.

Where to even begin? Well, at the risk of stating the obvious, Netanyahu did not kill Hersh Goldberg-Polin. In fact, if Netanyahu had not been delayed in entering Rafah, where Hersh Goldberg-Polin was being held, those poor parents might have got their son back. But while support for Netanyahu to finish the war as quickly and mercilessly as possible make immaculate foreign policy sense, it would have endangered the Democrats’ electoral prospects in Michigan, alienated their genocidally antisemitic woke base, and put the lie to the Obama-era delusion that America’s problems in the third world are due to us not bending over backwards enough for terrorists and autocrats. So it won’t happen. Because Democrats don’t care about protecting the American people, when protecting the American people endangers their illiberal and extreme ideological agenda.

What’s more, this is unfortunately not an isolated incident. In fact, the problem is arguably even worse in our own sphere of influence. Which is why we now must turn our eyes southward to Brazil, where Elon Musk’s X is now banned on the grounds of promoting “disinformation,” even as the Brazilian government is demanding X appoint a Brazilian “legal representative” (who will presumably be immediately arrested), not to mention arresting anyone from Brazil who uses a VPN to access X. In other words, an American business which makes its money by allowing free speech is now under sanction by a major South American power (and titular US ally) precisely for fulfilling its quintessentially American mission.

And what is the Biden administration’s response? Only a curt response that they are “monitoring the situation.” At time of writing, there has been no threat of sanctions, no diplomatic attempts to smooth the situation over, no gentle cajoling of a country dependent on US goodwill to cease its dictatorial judicial war on speech, nothing. And why? Because secretly, the Democrats wish they could do the same thing to Musk, whose purchase of X has permanently broken the woke stranglehold on the internet and made the digital witch trials of the Trump era a source of deserved shame even for liberals. Again, this is an American business – one of the most consequential American businesses on the planet – and the Democrats are permitting a foreign power to persecute it because it puts their agenda at stake. Because Democrats don’t care about protecting American business or constitutional rights, when that business or those rights endangers their illiberal and extreme ideological agenda.

What about on the domestic front? Is there any cause for “joy” there? Who are we kidding, you know there isn’t. Because you know what the Democrats will protect, even from things which they should be able to handle on their own? Their Potemkin presidential nominee, Kamala Harris. At time of writing, Harris has done precisely one utterly vapid, unconvincing televised interview with CNN; an interview in which even the preapproved questions and friendly posture of the network couldn’t disguise her transparent lack of substance. Worse still, when Harris does gesture toward substance, her ideas are utterly unworkable, to the point that her own allies have to reassure skeptical donors and constituencies that they’ll never pass in Congress. Real vote of confidence, there.

If you think this is a symptom of a grossly unprepared and deeply flawed nominee…well, you’re correct. But that’s not all it is. It’s also a symptom of a party which cannot state its agenda out loud, because when you observe that agenda in action, you realize how dangerous and illiberal it actually is.

They cannot say that they want to shut down businesses which permit people to commit thoughtcrime, but they do.

They cannot say that Americans deserve to be captured, tortured, and shot by Hamas for the simple crime of being in Gaza while Jewish, even if their base clearly believes that.

They cannot say that their nominee should be exempt from questions because of her identity, or because they’d even vote for a dead dog (or at least a senile one) against Donald Trump for the sake of “saving democracy” (read: rule by Democrats), even though their actions plainly display that they believe both those things. They are stuck doing nothing and arguing for nothing, in the hopes that America will vote for their nominee in order to find out what she believes, just as they tell us to pass legislation so that we can find out what’s in it. Their agenda is all they care about, and yet their agenda is precisely the thing they can’t say out loud and can’t act on too obviously because if they did, Americans would recoil. Which is why they do nothing, say nothing, and act as if they owe you – the voter – nothing in exchange for your vote.

Don’t fall for it. When American citizens are killed by bloodthirsty terrorists abroad, you deserve a government that responds with lethal efficiency, not one that dithers in meetings and then blames the victims. When American business is targeted by power-mad foreign paper pushers, you deserve a government that doesn’t just “monitor the situation,” but acts to solve it. When a person stands before you and asks for your vote to be president of the United States, you deserve to hear that person tell you what they’ll do and to face the appropriate level of scrutiny from a press which doesn’t play favorites, but which actually believes that Democracy Dies In Darkness, rather than using it as a slogan to justify casting a cloak of silence over their preferred candidate.

You, the voter, deserve all of that. But only one candidate is prepared to offer it. We know who that is, and after this past week, we suspect a lot of people will be more hungry than ever for him to resume power.

Chinese Jets Tail US Spy Plane While Making 1st Pass Over Taiwan Strait In 5 Months

China says it sent warplanes to monitor and mirror a US military reconnaissance plane as it flew over the contested Taiwan Strait on Tuesday, according to statements of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

The PLA’s Eastern Theater Command identified the aircraft as a US Navy P-8A Poseidon patrol plane. A statement said the PLA “organized warplanes to tail and monitor the U.S. aircraft’s flight and handled it in accordance with the law.”

“Theater command troops will remain on constant high alert and resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and security as well as regional peace and stability,” the statement added.

The US Navy’s 7th Fleet later confirmed, “The aircraft’s transit of the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the United States’ commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.” It asserted in response to Beijing’s condemnation: “The United States military flies, sails and operates anywhere international law allows.”

“The Poseidon on Tuesday encountered foreign military forces, but the flight was not affected,” the US Navy indicated. “All interactions with foreign military forces during the transit were consistent with international norms and did not impact the operation,” the statement noted.

Tuesday’s fly through marked the US Navy’s first aerial transit of the vital strait in five months. Days prior, the German frigate Baden-Wuerttemberg and support ship Frankfurt am Main made their own transit.

The German pass-through was much rarer, a first in over two decades, and suggests deepening NATO forces’ involvement in the Taiwan issue.

This past summer, Taiwan’s foreign ministry had stated that it “welcomes NATO’s continuous increase in attention to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region in recent years, and its active strengthening of exchanges and interactions with countries in the Indo-Pacific region.”

Median line incursions by Chinese military assets have seen an uptick ever since the election victory last January of new Taiwan President Lai Ching-te, which Beijing has called a ‘separatist’. China’s Foreign Ministry has repeatedly vowed that “The determination of China to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity remains unrelenting.”

U.S. says thwarted Chinese 'state-sponsored' cyber attack

U.S. says thwarted Chinese ‘state-sponsored’ cyber attack

The US Justice Department on Wednesday said it had neutralized a cyber-attack network that affected 200,000 devices worldwide, alleging it was run by hackers backed by the Chinese government. The malware infected a wide range of consumer devices, including routers, cameras, digital video recorders and network-attached storage devices, according to a US statement, with the […]

Nine US Senators Launch Inquiry Into Kamala Harris’ Failure As ‘Broadband Czar’

Nine US Senators Launch Inquiry Into Kamala Harris’ Failure As ‘Broadband Czar’

FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr criticized the Biden-Harris administration, pointing out that their $42.45 billion program to bring high-speed internet to rural America has yet to connect a single person. He said it had been 1,038 days, and “not a single person has been connected” since the program debuted.

Carr on X pushed out a post in the early afternoon of Wednesday featuring a new letter from nine US senators, including Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), stressing concern about VP Harris’ time as ‘broadband czar’ entirely mismanaged the $42.45 billion program to connect rural America. Considering that not a single home in rural America has been connected, the senators warned that the failures are piling up for VP Harris, citing her failure as ‘border czar.’

Dear Vice President Harris:

We are writing to express serious concerns regarding your role as the Biden-Harris administration’s “broadband czar” and the mismanagement of federal broadband initiatives under your leadership. It appears that your performance as “broadband czar” has mirrored your performance as “border czar,” marked by poor management and a lack of effectiveness despite significant federal broadband investments and your promises to deliver broadband to rural areas.

As you are aware, Congress, through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, provided the National Telecommunications and Information Administration with $42.45 billion for the Broadband, Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program. These funds are intended to provide broadband access to unserved communities, particularly those in rural areas.

In 2021, you were specifically tasked by President Biden to lead the administration’s efforts to expand broadband services to unserved Americans. And at the time, you stated, “we can bring broadband to rural America today.” Despite your assurances over three years ago, rural and unserved communities continue to wait for the connectivity they were promised. Under your leadership, not a single person has been connected to the internet using the $42.45 billion allocated for the BEAD program. Indeed, Politico recently reported on “the messy, delayed rollout of” this program.

Instead of focusing on delivering broadband services to unserved areas, your administration has used the BEAD program to add partisan, extralegal requirements that were never envisioned by Congress and have obstructed broadband deployment. By imposing burdensome climate change mandates on infrastructure projects, prioritizing government-owned networks over private investment, mandating the use of unionized labor in states, and seeking to regulate broadband rates, your administration has caused unnecessary delays leaving millions of Americans unconnected.

The administration’s lack of focus on truly connecting the unconnected has failed the American people and represents a gross misuse of limited taxpayer dollars. The American public deserves better.

‘All-In’ podcast host Jason Calacanis recently said, “Our government is corrupt and stealing our money. United airlines just put Starlink on 1,000+ planes, but the FCC claims we need to spend 5-10k per rural home for wired connections?!? These homes are putting starlink in on their nickel while they wait for a cable modem in 10 years — wtf??? Pure corruption or insane stupidity — you decide!”

Carr recently chimed in and said Elon Musk’s Starlink offered the FCC a secured commitment of $1,300 per household for 640,000 rural locations. He said in 2023, the federal government rejected Starlink and decided to spend $100,000 per location.

Musk said Wednesday that the FCC rejected Starlink because of “lawfare.”

Here’s what X users are saying about an inefficient and what appears to be a ‘corruption’ within the Biden-Harris admin:

Good question.
