Jack Posobiec hosted Dr. Taylor Marshall on Tuesday’s special Christmas Eve episode of Human Events Daily entitled, “The Truth About Christmas.” The main topic discussed was the history of Saint Nicholas, or Santa Claus, and the morality behind celebrating him during Christmas as a Christian.
Marshall explained that in certain groups of Christians, there’s been a “rejection” of anything not related to Christ during the holiday season. He described the various aspects of Christmas as a “puzzle,” before stating that its traditions, “especially the tradition of Saint Nicholas, known in our culture as Santa Claus is deeply rooted in Jesus Christ who is the reason for the season.”
He said that the goal should not be to give up commercialized Christmas traditions, but to “take them back.” Marshall described Saint Nicholas as one of the “top 10 most heroic Christians in the last 2,000 years,” as he delivered women from sex trafficking, gave gifts to children, was imprisoned during the Roman persecution, and was a fighter of heretics.
“I think it’s very important that young children realize that Saint Nicholas is a disciple of Jesus Christ. He is a servant, a teacher, and a preacher of Jesus Christ, and that’s why he was a gift giver,” Marshall emphasized.
Marshal explained how through Saint Nicholas’ generosity and good deeds to children and women who were trafficked, he became the patron of children and gift-giving.
