Tim Walz Gets Nuked by His Former Battalion Leader: ‘He Did Not Earn the Rank’

The former battalion commander for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s (D) National Guard unit responded to reports that the governor had suggested he retired as a “Command Sergeant Major,” and noted that Walz did not “successfully complete any assignment” at that rank.

In a post on Facebook, John Kolb described it as an “affront to the Noncommissioned Officer Corps” that Walz, who was recently named Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate, “continues to glom onto the title.”

“He did not earn the rank or successfully complete any assignment as an E9,” Kolb wrote. “It is an affront to the Noncommissioned Officer Corps that he continues to glom onto the title.”

“I can sit in the cockpit of an airplane, it does not make me a pilot,” Kolb wrote. “Similarly, when the demands of service and leadership at the highest level got real, he chose another path.”

Kolb’s post comes as Walz has faced criticism and accusations of “stolen valor.”

As Breitbart News previously reported, Walz had previously listed on his official biography, that he had retired at a higher rank than the one he had actually retired at:

Walz served in the Minnesota Army National Guard and retired at the rank of master sergeant, or an E-8. However, on his official website bio, he lists a higher rank that he served at for a short period that ultimately was rescinded, as he did not complete all the requirements to serve at that ran. However, his bio implies that he retired at the rank of command sergeant major, or an E-9.

The reference to Walz being a “retired command sergeant major” was later removed by the Harris campaign, and Walz’s biography was updated to note that the governor had “once served at the command sergeant major rank,” according to Politico.

Retired Capt. Corey Bjertness, who had served as the chaplain for Walz’s unit in the National Guard described Walz as being “cowardly” for leaving his unit prior to a deployment, in an interview with the New York Post.

“In our world, to drop out after a WARNORD [warning order] is issued is cowardly, especially for a senior enlisted guy,” Bjertness said in a statement.

Breitbart News previously reported that an archived press release from Walz’s campaign in March 2005 showed that the “National Guard Public Affairs Office announced a possible partial mobilization of roughly 2,000 troops from the Minnesota National Guard”:

On Thursday, March 17 the National Guard Public Affairs Office announced a possible partial mobilization of roughly 2,000 troops from the Minnesota National Guard. First District congressional candidate Tim Walz currently holds the rank of Command Sergeant Major in the 1-125th Battalion, which is based in New Ulm and largely composed of men and women from southern Minnesota. The announcement from the National Guard PAO specified that all or a portion of Walz’s battalion could be mobilized to serve in Iraq within the next two years.

Walz, who teaches Global Geography at Mankato West High School, has been an active member of the National Guard since 1981. He has previously been deployed during his 23 years in the National Guard, including an eight month deployment during Operation Enduring Freedom.

When asked about his possible deployment to Iraq Walz said, “I do not yet know if my artillery unit will be part of this mobilization and I am unable to comment further on specifics of the deployment.”

Although his tour of duty in Iraq might coincide with his campaign for Minnesota’s 1st Congressional seat, Walz is determined to stay in the race. “As Command Sergeant Major I have a responsibility not only to ready my battalion for Iraq, but also to serve if called on. I am dedicated to serving my country to the best of my ability, whether that is in Washington DC or in Iraq.”

“I dont want to speculate on what shape my campaign will take if I am deployed, but I have no plans to drop out of the race. I am fortunate to have a strong group of enthusiastic supporters and a very dedicated and intelligent wife. Both will be a major part of my campaign, whether I am in Minnesota or Iraq.”

If called to duty, Walz would leave behind his wife Gwen and four year old daughter, Hope.

Walz ended up leaving the military while his unit deployed to Iraq.

In Kolb’s Facebook post, he stated that Walz had “got out of the way for better leadership,” and praised Tom Behrends, who replaced Walz, as being “the right leader at the right time.” Kolb added that he had “no opinion of Mr. Walz’s decision to leave service at the time he did.”

“I have no opinion of Mr. Walz’s decision to leave service at the time he did,” Kolb added. “It was his right to retire early. I also have no criticism of his service as an E7 and E8 in the MNARNG. By all accounts and on the record, he was a competent Chief of Firing Battery/Gunnery Sergeant and First Sergeant. I cannot say the same of his service sitting, frocked, in the CSM chair.”

JD Vance: Mass Deportations Should ‘Start with 1 Million’

Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that the Trump administration will start mass deportations with a million people.

Anchor Jonathan Karl said, “One of the proposals in the platform you’ve talked about, and Trump has talked about, is a mass deportation. You said he said he’ll start with the easy ones, the criminals, people who commit crimes, deport them, but he said deporting 15 million to 20 million people, how do you actually do that?

Vance said, “We have to start with the fact that we have a wide-open southern border because our border czar set a lot of open border policies.”

Karl said, “You know she wasn’t the border czar.”

Vance said, “That was what the media called her. She assumed the title.”

Karl asked, “You’re going to knock on doors and ask people for their papers?”

Vance said, “This is the wrong attitude towards it, right? There’s 20 million people here illegally. You start with what’s achievable. You do that, and then you go onto what’s achievable from there. If you deport a lot of violent criminals and frankly if you make it harder to hire illegal labor, I think you go a lot of the way to solving the illegal immigration problem. But look, President Trump is absolutely right. You cannot have a border unless you’re willing to deport some people. I think it’s interesting that people focus on, well, how do you deport 18 million people? Let’s start with 1 million. That’s where Kamala Harris has failed and we can go from there.”

JD Vance: Tim Walz Lied About Military Career, Used Dishonesty for ‘Political Gain’

Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Gov. Tim Walz lied about his military career for his own political gain.

Anchor Dana Bash said, “Governor Walz served 24 years, he even stayed after he could have retired because of 9/11, more than the country asked of him, do you honor his service?”

Vance said, “Well of course, Dana, I honor his service and I’ve never criticized what Tim Walz did when he was in the military. I criticized his retirement decision and most importantly, Dana, I criticized his lying about his own record.”

He added, “This is a guy who was captured on video saying, I carried a gun in war. He never went to war. This is a guy who has been captured on video as other people say, he’s an Afghanistan veteran, he’s a veteran of a war, nodding along in agreement instead of saying ‘No, no, no, I did serve my country. I did it honorably, but I never went to a war zone.’ I’m not criticizing Tim Walz’s service. I’m criticizing the fact that he lied about his service for political gain. Dana, now I served in the United States Marine Corps, you know this. And look, there are a lot of things that I’m proud about. I’ve never lied about what I did or overstated it because it would be beneficial to me in an election. I think that’s what Tim Walz did. That’s what I was criticizing. Yes, I do think it’s scandalous behavior.”

Trump Campaign Says ‘Foreign Sources’ Hacked Internal Communications

The Trump campaign claimed that its internal communications were hacked by “foreign sources hostile to the United States,” according to a recent report.

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung confirmed to Politico that “documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources” that were deemed “hostile” to the nation. The statement from Cheung came after the outlet had reportedly received “emails from an anonymous account with internal documents from former President Donald Trump’s campaign beginning around July 22.”

Included in the documents sent to the outlet was a “research dossier” that the campaign had conducted on Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), Trump’s pick for vice president:

On July 22, POLITICO began receiving emails from an anonymous account. Over the course of the past few weeks, the person – who used an AOL email account and identified themselves only as “Robert” – relayed what appeared to be internal communications from a senior Trump campaign official. A research dossier the campaign had apparently done on Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, which was dated Feb. 23, was included in the documents. The documents are authentic, according to two people familiar with them and granted anonymity to describe interal communications. One of the people described the dossier as a preliminary version of Vance’s vetting file.

A portion of a “research document” about Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) was reportedly also among the documents sent to the outlet.

“These documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources hostile to the United States, intended to interfere with the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout our Democratic process,” Cheung said in a statement to the outlet. “On Friday, a new report from Microsoft found that Iranian hackers broke into the account of a ‘high ranking official’ on the U.S. presidential campaign in June 2024, which coincides with the close timing of President Trump’s selection of a vice presidential nominee.”

Cheung’s statement comes after Microsoft released a nine-page report on Friday revealing that it had been “tracking” activity that “increasingly points to Iran’s intent to influence this year’s US presidential election.”

In a blog from Microsoft, the company discussed activities by several groups with connections to the “Iranian government.”

One of the groups was reported to have “sent a spear phishing email in June to a high-ranking official on a presidential campaign from the compromised email account of a former senior advisor,” according to Microsoft:

Yet another Iranian group, this one connected with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, sent a spear phishing email in June to a high-ranking official on a presidential campaign from the compromised email account of a former senior advisor. The email contained a link that would direct traffic through a domain controled by the group before routing to the website of the provided link. Within days of this activity, the same group unsuccessfully attempted to log into an account belonging to a former presidential candidate. We’ve since notified those targeted.

“The Iranians know that President Trump will stop their reign of terror just like he did in his first four years in the White House,” Cheung added.

In July, United States officials revealed that they had received information about a potential assassination plot on Trump by Iran.

The Department of Justice recently revealed that a Pakistani man, with alleged connections to Iran, was arrested and charged in connection to a potential plot to assassinate Trump and several other U.S. officials.

Kamala Harris Copies Trump's No Taxes on Tips Campaign Promise

Kamala Harris Copies Trump’s No Taxes on Tips Campaign Promise

Vice President Kamala Harris copied a campaign promise first announced by former President Donald Trump to eliminate taxes on tips.

During a campaign rally in Nevada on Saturday, Harris acknowledged that Culinary Union Local 226 was at the rally, and she continued on to vow that if elected president in November, she would work to “raise the minimum wage” and “eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.”

Harris’s promise comes after Trump announced in June during a rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, that if elected president, his administration would “not charge taxes on tips.”

“I know Culinary 226 is in the house,” Harris told the crowd. “And, the culinary union, as everyone in Nevada knows, they have helped lead the way in our country for workers’ rights and workers dignity. I have to say, for years I’ve been so proud to work by your side. When I was Attorney General of California, we worked together to crack down on wage theft. When I was a United States senator we fought together for paid family leave and medical leave, and earlier this year right here in Vegas we celebrated your historic contract win. And, it is my promise to everyone here, when I am President, we will continue our fight for working families of America. Including to raise the minimum wage, and eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.”

During a roundtable event at an African-American church in Michigan in June, Trump again vowed that his administration was “not going to tax tips.”

“Tell your waiters and waitresses, anybody else getting tips, ’cause they’re… a lot of people get tips,” Trump said. “Car attendants and caddies, and a lot of different people get tips. We are not going to tax tips – the tax immediately is coming off.”

Trump criticized Harris’s recent promise to end taxation on tips, stating that she “just wants it for Political Purposes.”

“Kamala Harris, whose ‘Honeymoon’ period is ENDING, and is starting to get hammered in the Polls, just copied my NO TAXES ON TIPS Policy,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “The difference is, she won’t do it, she just wants it for Political Purposes! This was a TRUMP idea – She has no ideas, she can only steal from me. Remember, Kamala has proposed the LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN HISTORY – It won’t happen. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

The former president has also been seen leaving a $500 tip at a restaurant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, writing “Vote Trump, No Tax on Tip” on the check.

Walz's Former Chaplain on Walz Leaving Prior to Deployment: 'Cowardly'

Walz’s Former Chaplain on Walz Leaving Prior to Deployment: ‘Cowardly’

The former chaplain of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s (D) National Guard unit described him as “cowardly” for retiring and leaving his unit right before a possible deployment.

In an interview with the New York Post, retired Capt. Corey Bjertness explained that just because Walz had been “running for Congress,” that was “not an excuse” for leaving his unit before a deployment. Bjertness’s words come after previous reports show that Walz had broken a promise he made in 2005 that he would deploy with his unit from the U.S. Army National Guard despite running for Congress at the time.

“In our world, to drop out after a WARNORD [warning order] is issued is cowardly, especially for a senior enlisted guy,” Bjertness explained to the outlet.

As Breitbart News previously reported, an archived press release from Walz’s campaign in March 2005 revealed that the “National Guard Public Affairs Office announced a possible partial mobilization of roughly 2,000 troops from the Minnesota National Guard”:

On Thursday, March 17 the National Guard Public Affairs Office announcecd a possible partial mobilization of roughy 2,000 troops from the Minnesota National Guard.

He has been previously deployed during his 23 years in the National Guard, including an eight month deployment during Operation Enduring Freedom.

“I don’t want to speculate on what shape my campaign will take if I am deployed, but I have no plans to drop out of the race.

“Running for Congress is not an excuse,” Bjertness added. “I stopped everything and went to war. I left my wife with three teenagers and a 6-year-old and was gone for 19 months.”

Allan Bonnifield, a soldier who had served with Walz during his time in the military told MPR News in an interview in 2018 that Walz had “weighed” his “decision to run for Congress very, very heavy,” as he knew his unit was “going on another deployment to Iraq.”

The outlet reported on the 2018 interview:

“He weighed that decision to run for Congress very, very heavy,” Bonnifield said. “He loved the military, he loved the Guard, he loved the soldiers that he worked with, and making that decision was very tough for him. Especially knowing that we were going on another deployment to Iraq. He didn’t take that decision lightly at all.”

In a separate interview with the New York Post, Tom Behrends, who ended up replacing Walz, described the Minnesota governor’s decision to leave his unit prior to deployment as saying “‘Screw you’ to the United States.”

“He had the opportunity to serve his country, and said, ‘Screw you’ to the United States,” Behrends told the outlet. “That’s not who I would pick to run for vice president.”

Walz, who was recently announced as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate in the 2024 presidential election, has faced accusations of “stolen valor” and criticism after the biography on his website had previously implied that he had retired with the rank of an E-9, or command sergeant major.

As Breitbart News reported:

Walz served in the Minnesota Army National Guard and retired at the rank of master sergeant, or an E-8. However, on his official website bio, he lists a higher rank that he served at for a short period that ultimately was rescinded, as he did not complete all the requirements to serve at that rank. However, his bio implies that he retired at the rank of command sergeant major, or an E-9.

The Harris campaign later removed the reference to Walz being a “retired command sergeant major,” and updated Walz’s biography to highlight that the governor had “once served at the command sergeant major rank,” according to Politico.

Commander Confirms Tim Walz Knew of Upcoming Deployment Before Retiring

Commander Confirms Tim Walz Knew of Upcoming Deployment Before Retiring

Former commander retired Army Command Sergeant Major Doug Julin confirmed Friday that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, now the Democrat vice presidential candidate, knew months in advance he would deploy to Iraq well before choosing to retire and miss the deployment.

In addition, Julin said that Walz assured him that, as a then-command sergeant major of his battalion, he would lead his battalion into Iraq. However, later on, Julin said he found out that Walz went around him — to two levels above him — to get his retirement approved before he could actually deploy.

In an interview with CNN, Julin said he and other senior leaders were told in fall of 2004 about an upcoming deployment to Iraq:

I’m going to kind of start of back in the fall of 2004, is what we received — my own commander and myself, of the 1st Brigade, 34th Infantry Division Brigade Combat Team, what’s called a notification of sourcing, which is a ‘NOS.’ We were informed that we would be alerted to go to Iraq within the next upcoming year or time period out there, start preparing your team, get your team together and let’s get the process in play.

Julin said after that, he met with Walz’s battalion. Julin did not say exactly when that meeting was, but indicated it was sometime before February 2005. At the time, Walz was the senior enlisted leader of the battalion, which is a role referred to as “commander sergeant major.” Julin said Walz was conditionally serving in that rank. (Walz eventually retired at a lower rank of master sergeant since he did not complete the requirements of a sergeant major, but has since falsely claimed he was a retired command sergeant major).

“From that, going forward, we met with the [1-125th Field Artillery Battalion], introduced ourselves, gave them the heads up, this is what’s happening, we don’t have the full particulars but we will get to it,” he said.

He recalled Walz telling him at a February 2005 meeting that he put in a bid to run for Congress:

In approximately February of 2005, my boss, my commander, [and] the command team, we scheduled a meeting at Camp Ripley, Minnesota, for meeting, getting everyone together, so all the battalion sergeant majors, the battalion commanders and the staff, would get to see each other and kind of start the team building event and that concept there.

At that meeting was Gov. Tim Walz, or Sergeant Major Tim Walz at the time. When we had the meeting, and it was over with, he asked to speak with me, and we sat down and spoke one-on-one, and that’s where he informed me. He says, ‘Just to let you know, I have put a bid in for Congress. I have not been selected yet, I have not been nominated yet, but I just want to let you know.’

Julin said the division got a warning order, which is a preliminary order before an official order. He said the following month, he talked to Walz again, who assured him that he would lead his battalion into Iraq.

He said:

The following month, in March of 2005, or it could have been April, give or take a month in there, we had another meeting at Camp Ripley. At that time, Tim Walz was there, we had our meeting, everybody was talking about who what when and where, what everyone was going to be doing, what our mission was coming up to be, how we were going to handle it, how we need to build the team. Again, this whole time period, we’re doing what’s called building a team to go forward to Iraq.

After the meeting, Tim Walz came in and sat down with me because I talked to him before, and I said I need to know what his answer is at that time. He came in, we sat and talked, he told me, he says, “I have not been nominated, I’m going forward with the battalion.” I said, “Good. Let’s go. We got the team built, and we’re starting to build the team out there.”

Julin said at the next meeting, in June 2005, he found out that Walz was not there, and was replaced by Command Sergeant Major Tom Behrends. He said that is when he found out that Walz “quit.”

“The individual that approved this was two levels higher than myself in the enlisted corps, and should have had Tim Walz come back to me and discuss this as to why he was not going forward now, after he had already told me he was going forward,” Julin said.

Julin said if Walz had been “an early-entry, low-level ranking” individual, he could be forgiven for not knowing the process.

“Tim Walz knew the process and procedures. He went around me and above and beyond me, and basically went to get somebody to back him to get him out of there without … it was just a backdoor process that he handled against me,” Julin said.

Julin said Walz went around him because he thought he might have turned down his request to retire and said, “No, it’s too late, you’re going forward.”

Julin said although the official deployment orders did not come until later, Walz clearly knew long before he was supposed to deploy.

Julin said clearly, “Well, people say he never knew he was going foward [to Iraq]. Yeah, he knew he was going forward. Had he gotten his orders yet? No, at that time, he had not.”

CNN said they reached out for comment from the Harris-Walz campaign, but had not heard back.

Kamala Harris Vows Amnesty for Millions of Illegals, Nationwide Mail-In Voting

Vice President Kamala Harris is vowing to sign legislation as president that would have millions of illegal aliens eventually securing naturalized American citizenship and imposing nationwide no-excuse mail-in voting.

During a rally in Glendale, Arizona, Harris said she would back amnesty for the nation’s 11 to 22 million illegal aliens through so-called “comprehensive reform.”

“We know our immigration system is broken and we know what it takes to fix it: comprehensive reform. That includes strong border security and an earned pathway to citizenship,” Harris said.

Such an amnesty would immediately fill the United States workforce with millions of newly legalized foreign workers against whom working and middle class Americans would have to compete.

Already, on President Joe Biden and Harris’s watch, American jobs have been filled with millions of newly arrived foreign workers while millions of native-born Americans have fallen out of the workforce.

“What that essentially means is that all of the job growth we have seen [under Biden and Harris] has been going to foreign-born workers — a category…which the Bureau of Labor Statistics admits includes illegal aliens,” Heritage Foundation economist E.J. Antoni has told Breitbart News.

Also during her speech, Harris said she would “finally pass” the Freedom to Vote Act to, among other things, enact nationwide no-excuse mail-in voting. The legislation would ensure that registrants could use drop boxes to turn in mail-in ballots.

Similarly, the legislation would automatically register voters unless they opt out. Specifically, states that already have automatic voter registration typically register voters through Departments of Motor Vehicle (DMV) offices.

In 2023, as Breitbart News reported, nearly 400 foreign nationals were discovered on Cook County, Illinois, voter rolls since 2007. Experts said that providing voter registrations at DMVs is responsible for the error.

Kamala Harris: ‘Now Is the Time’ for a Ceasefire, to ‘Bring the Hostages Home’

Vice President Kamala Harris stated that “now is the time” for a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

During a rally in Arizona on Friday, Harris addressed protesters in the crowd and spoke about how she and President Joe Biden were “working around the clock every day” to get a ceasefire deal done between Israel and Hamas.

“So, let me say, I have been clear,” Harris told the crowd. “Now is the time to get a ceasefire deal and get the hostage deal done. Now is the time, and the president and I are working around the clock every day to get that ceasefire deal done and bring the hostages home.”

The Biden administration has been placing increased pressure on Israel to agree to a ceasefire with Hamas since it began a military offensive operation in Gaza to destroy Hamas.

Israel’s military offensive operation in the Hamas-controlled territory of Gaza came after Hamas terrorists launched a land, sea, and air invasion on Israel, leaving 1,200 people dead and more than 250 people taken as hostages.

After the recent death of Hamas’s political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Iran, Biden said Haniyeh’s death was “not helpful” in attempting to negotiate a ceasefire.

In November, Israel and Hamas agreed to a temporary pause in fighting, during which time several hostages taken by Hamas on October 7, 2023, were released. Hamas ended up breaking the week-long truce by launching rockets toward Israel.

As Breitbart News previously reported, Biden announced in May a three-part ceasefire deal, which included a “six-week ceasefire in which some hostages would be released, including the five American hostages.”

Under the deal, Israel would also release Palestinian prisoners, and negotiations between Israel and Hamas would begin regarding a permanent ceasefire. The terms of the ceasefire deal were “identical” to ones that had previously been discussed.

Harris has previously criticized Israel for “the scale of human suffering” taking place in Gaza while adding that Israel has a right to defend itself.

In recent remarks, Harris suggested that she would be willing to talk about an arms embargo on Israel with leaders from the Uncommitted National Movement. The pro-Palestinian group has previously encouraged voters to withhold casting their votes for Biden in response to his stance on Israel.

Trump Plane Diverted to Billings, Montana due to ‘Mechanical Issue’

Former President Donald Trump’s plane was diverted to Billings, Montana, due to a reported “mechanical issue” ahead of his rally in Bozeman.

Staff at Billings Logan International Airport confirmed that the former president had landed in Billings, though Trump had been scheduled to land in Bozeman, according to the Washington Post.

The drive from Billings to Bozeman is about two hours.

A spokesperson from the airport confirmed to the New York Post that Trump’s “aircraft had mechanical issues,” adding that the former president would fly on a private jet to Bozeman.

“I just landed in a really beautiful place, Montana,” Trump said in a video posted to Truth Social. “So beautiful flying over and you just look down, and that’s the way it’s supposed to be. “But, we have a very high rating in Montana. We have a lot of popularity, I like them, they like me.”

Trump added that he was in Montana “to do some fundraisers” and to support Montana Republican Senate candidate Tim Sheehy.

Sheehy is vying for Montana Sen. Jon Tester’s (D) seat. In a recent Emerson College/the Hill poll, Sheehy was reported to have a two-point advantage over Tester, 48 percent to 46 percent.

“We think he’s going to do really well,” Trump added. “We’re going to have a rally. And, it’ll be a lot of fun.”

The former president is scheduled to speak from Montana State University around 8:00 p.m. MT, according to Fox News.
