Virginia Mandates Paper Ballots, Tracking, And Proof Of Residency For 2024 Election

Virginia Mandates Paper Ballots, Tracking, And Proof Of Residency For 2024 Election

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) on Wednesday signed an executive order to implement various security measures ahead of the November election – including the use of paper ballots, tracking possession of ballots during early voting, matching the number of ballots casts with then number of voters who have checked in, and the number of ballots sent to voters.

The order also requires absentee ballots to be requested before being mailed to voters, in addition to rejecting ballots mailed back unless the voter provides the last four digits of their Social Security number and birth year.

The state notably uses paper ballot counting machines that aren’t connected to the internet and are tested before elections.

Meanwhile, Youngkin also ordered the state to update its voter rolls – including adding or removing people based on whether they are allowed to vote in the state, removing those unable to prove residency, removing the names of dead voters, and ensuring illegals cannot cast a ballot.

According to Virginia AG Jason Miyares, 6,303 illegals have been removed from the state’s voter rolls during Youngkin’s tenure, and almost 80,000 deceased voters have been removed.

As the Epoch Times notes further, Youngkin instructed the Department of Motor Vehicles to “expedite the interagency data sharing with the Department of Elections of noncitizens by generating a daily file of all noncitizens transactions, including addresses and document numbers.”

The Department of Elections compares a list of noncitizens with a list of those registered to vote. Those who are on both lists get removed from voter rolls. If someone is erroneously removed, he or she has 14 days to prove eligibility to cast a ballot.

Additionally, Virginia has cameras monitoring drop box locations 24/7.

Moreover, according to the executive order, the Department of Elections is to inform voters about prohibited activities including, but not limited to, electoral intimidation, illegally disclosing or using Social Security numbers, unlawful registrations and votes, and tampering with or stealing voting items.

There have been almost two dozen cases of election fraud cases in Virginia since 2007, according to the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in Washington.

Election Integrity

In a statement, Youngkin said that the issue of election integrity isn’t partisan and that elections should be held fairly.

This isn’t a Democrat or Republican issue, it’s an American and Virginian issue,” he said. “Every legal vote deserves to be counted without being watered down by illegal votes or inaccurate machines. In Virginia, we don’t play games and our model for election security is working.”

While Youngkin and the GOP flipped the gubernatorial mansion and the House of Delegates in November 2021, Democrats have controlled both houses of the state Legislature since earlier this year.

Polling has showed that former President Donald Trump is competitive in the Old Dominion State. More recent polls, after President Joe Biden dropped out and Vice President Kamala Harris received the nomination, have shown a tighter race.

The last time a GOP presidential candidate won Virginia was in 2004, when President George W. Bush won reelection.

In addition to the presidential race, other major races in Virginia in November include the Senate race between incumbent Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Republican Hung Cao and key House races in the state’s Second, Seventh, and 10th congressional districts.

The next Virginia gubernatorial election will be held in November 2025. Youngkin is ineligible to run for a second consecutive term in accordance with the state’s constitution. Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.), who isn’t running for reelection, is seen as the early front-runner for the governor’s mansion.

Exclusive — Donald Trump: Kamala Harris ‘Hates Israel,’ ‘Doesn’t Like Jewish People Even Though She’s Married to One’

PALM BEACH, Florida — Former President Donald Trump told Breitbart News exclusively that his general election opponent Vice President Kamala Harris “hates Israel” and “doesn’t like Jewish people even though she’s married to one.”

In an hourlong Thursday evening interview with Breitbart News at his luxurious seaside resort and club Mar-a-Lago, Trump made the case that Harris’s selection of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate shows “how liberal she is.”

“By picking Walz, by picking the governor of Minnesota, she has showed how liberal she is,” Trump said. “She hates Israel. She is very bad to Jewish people. It’s incredible how badly she treats Jewish people and Israel—it’s amazing.”

Trump also said he would like to see tensions between Israelis and the Palestinians “resolved,” much like he said he hopes for peace in Ukraine earlier in the interview.

“But that’s another thing. I would like to see that get resolved,” Trump said.

Asked if bypassing the Jewish governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, in her running mate selection process to instead pick Minnesota’s Walz demonstrates her dislike of Jewish people, Trump said it is Harris’s “actions on Israel” that prove it.

“She doesn’t like Jewish people even though she’s married to one. She doesn’t like Jewish people,” Trump said. “She may be married to one, but that doesn’t mean she likes Israel or Jewish people because she certainly is not showing it. It’s not the bypass thing because I think other candidates of that group were better than either of them. Other candidates of that group were far better than Shapiro. But it’s her actions on Israel. Forget about Shapiro—that’s the least of it. Her actions really show how bad she is to the Jewish people and to Israel.”

Trump also said that Democrats have now become the party of Hamas.

“They are pro-Hamas,” Trump said. “Schumer has become a Palestinian. They are pro-Hamas. There’s no question about it.”

The contrast between Republicans and Democrats on Israel, Trump said, is clear.

“I think it’s amazing that this happened because I’ll tell you, 15 years ago it was unthinkable for people to go so radical and be so radical,” Trump said. “Today, it’s the Democrats in Congress and even a little bit with Democrat Senators. You see them coming along that route also. The Republican Party is pro-Israel and the Democrats are pro-Hamas.”

What was the Reagan Revolution about?

What was the Reagan Revolution about?

by Paul Craig Roberts, Paul Craig Roberts:

It depends on whether you were part of it or viewed it through the eyes of the liberal media.

I was a part of the Reagan Revolution. Reagan adopted the Kemp-Roth bill and the supply-side policy it represented as his economic policy to cure stagflation. As I had written the bill and had built as a member of the Congressional staff support for it among House Republicans and Senate Republicans and Democrats, Reagan reasoned that I had a stake in his economic policy and would get it unmolested out of his administration so that Congress could vote on it.

TRUTH LIVES on at https://sgtreport.tv/

Reagan explained to me that he had two goals. The first was to end the “stagflation” that forced the US economy to pay for economic growth with higher inflation. Once the US economy was repaired, Reagan’s second goal was to use the power of the US economy to end the Cold War.

The Soviet economy was dysfunctional and within its paradigm could not be repaired. Reagan’s plan was to fix the US economy and then challenge the Soviets to an arms race in order to bring them to the negotiation table to end the Cold War. Reagan thought that the destructive power of nuclear weapons was too great to risk distrust and tension between the US and the Soviet Union.

Reagan accomplished both of his goals, and he has not been given credit. I was involved in both. I got Reagan’s supply-side policy out of his administration, and Congress passed it. Next as a member of a secret presidential committee I helped to move the CIA out of the way of Reagan’s intention to end the Cold War. The CIA argued that the Soviets would win an arms race because their economy was centrally planned and could put more resources in the military than could Reagan. Reagan believed the Soviet economy was broken and could not be fixed. The secret presidential committee, after reading the CIA’s analysis and interviewing CIA officials, concluded that Reagan was right. The committee told Reagan that the CIA was protecting its budget and power by trying to prevent the end of the Cold War.

Americans do not understand how many influential institutions have an interest in war and how few have an interest in peace. What do you think the political campaign contributions from peace groups are compared to those of the military/security complex?

Ask yourself why Washington has wasted billions and billions of dollars in such immoral uses as funding a proxy war in Ukraine against Russia and in funding Israel’s attempted genocide of Palestine when, all the while, US infrastructure is hurting, when homelessness on our cities’ streets is growing, when health care is substandard and unavailable to many, and when Washington’s open borders policy is bringing in 3.6 million people annually that need support for housing, food, medical care, and education. The war lobby rules over every other budget category.

Look at the eight years of Hell the military/security complex put Trump through just because he said he was going to “normalize relations with Russia.” The last thing the military/security complex can afford is to have their enemy taken away.

War has a grip on America. It is Washington’s main purpose. Every tension-reducing agreement 20th century US presidents made with the Soviet Union was repealed beginning with Clinton in the 1990s and completed by George W. Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden.

Iran ramping up US election interference efforts: Microsoft

Iran ramping up US election interference efforts: Microsoft

Fake news sites, hacking, cyber attacks — Iran is ramping up efforts to influence US elections this fall, Microsoft said Friday, following warnings from American officials about the threat of foreign interference.

Among the Iranian-built sites masquerading as news portals are “Nio Thinker,” which has a left-leaning stance and frequently insults former president Donald Trump, and another aimed at conservative audiences called “Savannah Time” that focuses on Republican politics and LGBTQ issues, the tech giant said in a report.

The sites appear to be plagiarizing some of their content from US publications using artificial intelligence tools, the report from the Microsoft Threat Analysis Center (MTAC) added.

Groups linked to the Iranian government have “laid the groundwork for influence campaigns on trending election-related topics and begun to activate these campaigns in an apparent effort to stir up controversy or sway voters -– especially in swing states,” said Clint Watts, MTAC’s general manager.

“They’ve launched operations that Microsoft assesses are designed to gain intelligence on political campaigns and help enable them to influence the elections in the future.”

Since March, a separate Iran-linked group has been impersonating social and political activists online, setting itself up for extreme activities including intimidation or inciting violence against political figures, the report said.

The ultimate goal of the group appears to be inciting chaos and sowing doubt about election integrity, it added.

Another Iranian group linked with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard compromised the email account of a former advisor to a presidential campaign.

That account was used to send a phishing email to a senior official involved in the campaign in a bid to intercept other messages, the report said.

One other Iranian group managed to compromise an account belonging to “a county-level government employee in a swing state,” the report said, adding that it was difficult to identify its motives.

US officials have warned of efforts by foreign powers, including Russia and Iran, to meddle in the November election.

Earlier this year, Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines warned that Iran was becoming “increasingly aggressive” in its influence efforts, seeking to stoke discord and undermine democratic institutions as it has done in prior election cycles.

Last month, the Justice Department said the United States had disrupted a Russian disinformation campaign involving an AI-powered “bot farm” used to create fake profiles on the social media platform X.

The campaign — aimed at sowing “discord” in the United States and other countries — was developed by a senior editor of RT, a Russian state-owned media outlet, financed by the Kremlin and aided by an officer of Russia’s FSB security service, it added.

Recap of Mises University
Economics News philosophy Politics Science

Recap of Mises University

Wow, what a week Mises University 2024 was! I have been a Mises University faculty member for over 30 years, and this—the 38th year of Mises U—may have been the best! Students came from 12 countries, 29 states, and 69 colleges and universities, including Yale and Princeton. The faculty, always outstanding, was truly inspiring and the students responded with great enthusiasm and endless questions.

A true highlight of the week was the presentation by Dr. Robert Malone, our special guest speaker. Dr. Malone discussed his forthcoming book, “PsyWar: Enforcing the New World Order” (written with his wife, Jill). It was an engaging and important talk, and the students were utterly captivated by it. You can also listen to this engaging talk here. As of this writing, it has 355,000 views!

Dr. Malone informed us of the government’s new term, “malinformation,” which is information that is true but makes the recipient of the information “distrustful of government.” What could be more American and more patriotic than that, you might say. The Department of Homeland Security, however, wants to use it to declare the purveyors of such information as possible “domestic terrorists.”

Dr. Malone was so inspired by Murray Rothbard’s “What Has Government Done to Our Money?” that he reviewed it (along with Murray’s “Anatomy of the State”) in his Substack column which has over 500,000 readers. After reading his intelligent review, I immediately invited him to speak at Mises U and he and his wife Jill graciously and excitedly accepted our invitation and thoroughly enjoyed their two days at the Mises Institute.

My own lecture, “Axis of Evil: America’s Three Worst Presidents,” has 70,000 views as of this writing, but the Big Moment of the conference was the appearance of our “mystery speaker,” Dr. Ron Paul, on Friday. The students were indeed surprised and ecstatic. Ron presented an hour-long lecture, took questions, and stood for pictures. Recalling the advice of Leonard Read, Ron said that “the most important thing you can do is educate yourself” and that the type of education offered by the Mises Institute “absolutely . . . is the answer.”

Mises University students have always been impressive and motivated, and they seem to be getting more and more so every year. In attendance were several successful entrepreneurs who had not yet turned 20! The student who won the first prize in the oral exam was Russian-born Guriy Borodkin (now a U.S. citizen) who is only 18 years old and he competed against much older Ph.D. students.

The week ended on Saturday afternoon with guests arriving to help us celebrate Lew Rockwell’s 80th birthday. We celebrated with a catered barbecue dinner and a beautiful birthday cake in honor of my friend and hero, the great Lew Rockwell. On display was a poster with birthday wishes from around the world, and I would like to share part of one of them by my friend, Hans-Hermann Hoppe. “I know you are too humble to say this, but I can certainly do it,” wrote Hans. “You are the world’s greatest living promoter of sound economics in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard and, more generally, of liberty, peace, common sense, and reason.”

What a thrilling experience this year’s students had: eye-opening lectures, wisdom from our special guests, meeting new friends and establishing relationships to last a lifetime. The students take all of this with them as they go forward and it is thanks to the generosity of supporters like yourself. Thank you for all your support of Mises University and of the Mises Institute in general. I hope to see you soon at one of our upcoming events.

If you would like to help next year’s students have their “best week of the year,” please consider donating to Mises University 2025 today. You can donate here.

Israel agrees to resume Gaza truce talks next week

Israel agrees to resume Gaza truce talks next week

Israel has agreed to resume Gaza ceasefire talks next week at the request of international mediators, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said, after intensive diplomatic efforts aimed at averting a region-wide conflagration.

The announcement followed an Iranian claim that Israel wants to spread war in the Middle East, as well as repeated accusations by Hamas militants, some analysts, and critics in Israel that Netanyahu has prolonged the fighting in Gaza.

Israel’s military on Thursday said troops had begun operations in the area of Khan Yunis, the southern Gaza city from which Israeli soldiers had withdrawn in April after months of fierce fighting with Hamas.

Israel has vowed to destroy the Palestinian Islamist movement but during 10 months of war across Gaza has found itself returning to some areas to fight the militants again.

“Enough, for both, the Jews and Hamas!” shouted Khan Yunis resident Ahmed al-Najjar.

“Have mercy on us for God’s sake, the young children and women are dying in the streets. Enough! Where will the people go?”

After the military issued an evacuation order for parts of Khan Yunis, AFPTV images showed a crowd of people flowing through dusty, damaged streets on foot or on donkey and motorcycle carts piled with belongings as horns honked.

“We’ve been displaced 15 times,” said Mohammed Abdeen.

Hamas’s unprecedented October attack on Israel started the war in Gaza that has pulled in Iran-aligned groups in neighbouring countries. Following vows of vengeance after the killing of two senior militants, fears of a broader Middle East war have surged.

There has been only one truce in the Gaza fighting, a week-long pause in November that saw Israeli hostages held by Hamas freed in exchange for Palestinian prisoners detained in Israel.

United States, Qatari and Egyptian mediators have for months tried to secure another deal.

In a joint statement on Thursday, the three countries’ leaders invited the warring parties to resume talks on August 15 in Doha or Cairo “to close all remaining gaps and commence implementation of the deal without further delay”.

Mediators were “prepared to present a final bridging proposal” to resolve remaining issues, they said.

Netanyahu’s office said later Thursday that Israel would send a negotiating team “to conclude the details of implementing a deal”.

Recent discussions have focused on a framework outlined by US President Joe Biden in late May which he said had been proposed by Israel. The UN Security Council endorsed that framework.

The war in Gaza began with Hamas’s attack that resulted in the deaths of 1,198 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures.

Palestinian militants seized 251 hostages, 111 of whom are still held in Gaza, including 39 the Israeli military says are dead.

Israel’s retaliatory military campaign in Gaza has killed at least 39,699 people, according to the Hamas-run territory’s health ministry, which does not give details of civilian and militant deaths.

In talks with his US counterpart Lloyd Austin, Yoav Gallant, the Israeli defence minister, “raised the importance of swiftly achieving an agreement” to return the hostages from Gaza, Israel’s military said on Friday.

The killing last week of Hamas’s political chief Ismail Haniyeh during a visit to Tehran had sidelined truce talks. Iran and Hamas blamed his death on Israel which has not directly commented on it.

In the hours after Haniyeh’s killing, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani questioned how mediation can succeed “when one party assassinates the negotiator on the other side?”

Haniyeh’s killing came hours after a strike on south Beirut killed military commander Fuad Shukr of the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement in Lebanon.

Israel said it carried out that attack in response to deadly rocket fire on the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights.

Hezbollah, in what it says is support for Hamas, has been trading near-daily cross-border fire with Israeli forces.

Hezbollah, Hamas, Iran and others vowed retaliation for the Shukr and Haniyeh killings, sending fears of a regional war soaring and triggering intensive de-escalation efforts.

Biden called the Egyptian and Qatari leaders this week, after which came word of the planned talks.

A senior Biden administration official said, however: “There’s still a significant amount of work to do.”

Israel had been “very receptive” to the idea of the talks, the official told reporters on condition of anonymity, rejecting suggestions that Netanyahu was stalling on a deal.

Far-right members of Netanyahu’s ruling coalition oppose any truce.

But Chuck Freilich, a former Israeli national security adviser and researcher at Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies, said the killing of Haniyeh has left Netanyahu “acting more from a position of strength now.”

After criticism from Biden and other American officials of the Gaza war’s impact on civilians, Freilich added that he thinks Netanyahu is also trying “to align with the US now, since Israel needs the US so much for dealing with the potential Iranian and Hezbollah attacks.”

The United States, which has sent extra warships and jets to the region to support Israel, has urged both Iran and Israel to avoid an escalation.

On Friday General Michael Kurilla, the head of US Central Command which covers the Middle East, returned to Israel for his second security assessment this week, Israel’s military said.

Netanyahu said this week that Israel was “prepared both defensively and offensively” and “determined” to defend itself.

In Khan Yunis, Israeli troops were “engaging in combat both above and below-ground” to eliminate militants and had struck more than 30 Hamas targets in the area, the military said on Friday.

Russian economic growth dips to 4 percent in second quarter

The pace of Russia’s economic growth slowed in the second quarter of 2024, official data showed Friday, amid concerns over stubborn inflation and warnings of “overheating”.

Gross domestic product (GDP) grew four percent year-on-year from April to June, according to the Rosstat statistics agency, the lowest quarterly result since the start of 2023, but still a sign that the economy is expanding.

The Kremlin has heavily militarised Russia’s economy since sending troops into Ukraine in February 2022, spending huge sums on arms production and on military salaries.

That spending boom has fuelled economic growth, helping the Kremlin buck initial predictions of a recession when it was hit with unprecedented Western sanctions in 2022.

But it has sent inflation surging at home, forcing the central bank to raise borrowing costs.

Consumer prices rose again in July, with inflation running at an annual rate of 9.13 percent, up from 8.59 percent in June, Rosstat data also showed.

The Central Bank has aggressively raised interest rates in a bid to cool what it has warned is an economy growing at unsustainable rates due to the massive increase in government spending on the Ukraine offensive.

The Russian central bank raised its key interest rate to 18 percent last month — the highest level since an emergency hike in February 2022 took it to 20 percent.

The bank’s governor Elvira Nabiullina said the economy was showing signs of “overheating” and pointed to difficulties with international payments — an effect of Western sanctions — as another factor driving up inflation.

Russia is set to spend almost nine percent of its GDP on defence and security this year, a figure unprecedented since the Soviet era, according to President Vladimir Putin.

Moscow’s federal budget has jumped almost 50 percent over the last three years — from 24.8 trillion rubles ($289 billion) in 2021, before the Ukraine offensive, to a planned 36.6 trillion rubles ($427 billion) this year.
