Hone is now moving toward the north-northwest near 7 mph (11 km/h). A similar motion toward the northwest is expected for the next 24 hours, followed by a turn toward the west-northwest and a slowing in forward speed. A more northward forward motion is expected to resume on Monday (HST). On the forecast track, Hone will be passing to the southwest of Kure and Midway Atolls over the next 48 hours, then passing near or just west of Kure Atoll on Monday. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours. ERIN ELMORE: Freelance scriptwriter sues CBS for not hiring him because of diversity requirements
In March, Brian Beneker, a freelance scriptwriter who formerly wrote for CBS’s Seal Team series, sued the network for being denied a staff writer position while open positions were filled with others who had less experience and fewer qualifications than he did.
According to America First Legal Foundation, Beneker claims CBS discriminated against him because he is white and heterosexual, while the network instead filled its writing roles with people of non-white races and LGBTQIA sexual orientations.
Using Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the law firm stated its course of action:
“AFL sued on behalf of our client, Brian Beneker, against Paramount Global, CBS Entertainment, and CBS Studios for allegedly violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and discriminating against Mr. Beneker by denying him employment and career opportunities based on race, sex, and sexual orientation.”
Citing a press release from CBS parent company Paramount Beneker’s lawsuit states the network had a diversity quota to ensure that 56% of its employees were non-white or LGBTQIA in 2020-2021. The percentage shifted to 50% in 2023, according to the Huffington Post.
According to Huffington Post, the network committed 25% of its development budget to fund projects from diverse writers. They also mandated that writers rooms on CBS shows must be at least 40% BIPOC representation, aiming to reach 50% by 2023.
On July 15, CBS responded legally to Beneker’s suit. The network referred to the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution in a Notice of Motion and Dismissal against the allegations of Beneker and his attorneys:
“CBS makes this motion on the grounds that CBS has a constitutional right under the First Amendment to select the writers whose work shapes CBS’s artistic enterprise. CBS also asserts that aspects of Beneker’s Second Amended Complaint are time-barred and fail to state a claim on which relief can be granted.”
According to Reuters, on August 14, U.S. District Judge John F. Walter ordered against CBS’s claims concluding “that the issues raised by Defendant are more appropriately resolved on a motion for summary judgment.”
The lawsuit addresses several individuals who met the diversity quota and were thus hired, despite their lack of experience. Beneker asked CBS Showrunner Spencer Hudnut why a certain writer was hired. Hudnut told him it was because the writer was black.
The same tendency continued when two writers’ assistants were hired as staff writers over Beneker. Hudnut told Beneker that these writers — a lesbian woman and a black woman — fit the network’s diversity quota and was the reason why they were hired instead of Beneker.
Before Beneker became a freelance writer for CBS, he was a script coordinator. Upon being offered a freelance scriptwriting opportunity, he was told he had to step down from script coordinating. The network had even offered him an eventual staff writing position, which was never fulfilled.
The suit goes on to address several other new writers hired for the same reason, while Beneker continued to remain in his same freelance position.
Ultimately, Hudnut told Beneker he would never be hired for a staff writer position because he did not fit the network’s diversity requirement for its writers. The lawsuit uses this as evidence to prove that CBS discriminated against the race, sex, gender, and sexual orientation of Beneker.
According to America First Legal Foundation, in light of incurred damages due to lost wages, Beneker is seeking back pay and future pay, compensation for loss of benefits, and expected wage increases from his contract. These are expected to amount to $500,000.

CHRISSY CLARK: Michigan university rebrands DEI office after nationwide backlash
Michigan Technological University rebranded its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) office amid a nationwide pushback against taxpayer-funded “anti-racism,” according to a report from The Daily Wire.
The university announced that its DEI department will now be known as the “Engagement and Belonging” department, according to a statement.
“The change reflects Michigan Tech’s continued dedication to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for all members of the University community, while emphasizing the intentional efforts made to achieve this goal,” the university’s statement reads.
Michigan Tech noted that the office’s functions, staff, and services remain unchanged.
Efforts to rebrand DEI offices are occurring across the country. In 2023, the University of South Carolina reorganized and renamed its DEI office. Following attempts in the state’s General Assembly to defund DEI, the South Carolina school created the “Division of Access, Civil Rights, and Community Engagement,” according to a local news outlet.
Clemson University followed shortly after by rebranding DEI to the “Division of Community Engagement, Belonging, and Access.”
Other state legislators anticipated the problems of outlawing “diversity, equity, and inclusion” initiatives, as many universities could merely rebrand the office without eliminating the racial bias inherent in the program.
In Texas, state legislators prohibited higher education establishments from having diversity offices. Universities across the state attempted to rebrand their DEI offices but were met with pushback.
State Sen. Brandon Creighton informed public universities in Texas that renaming or rebranding a diversity office does not comply with state law. The University of Texas was among those that eliminated its DEI office.
“While I am encouraged with the progress I have seen from many institutions of higher education in implementing [the outlawing of DEI offices], I am deeply concerned with the possibility that many institutions may choose to merely rename their offices or employee titles,” Creighton wrote.

No ‘Joy’ on Labor Day: Inflation Sends Cost of Cookouts Soaring
Americans are feeling less “joy” when firing up their grills and getting their marinades ready this Labor Day weekend, realizing that some of the classic barbecue staples are costing them a lot more.
It all begins with firing up the grill, which will cost more than it did three and a half years ago. According to data from the Bureau of Labor statistics, the price of propane, kerosene, and firewood has risen 16 percent from January 2021 to July 2024.
Staples of the basic all-American cookout are up too, meaning hamburgers and hotdogs are going to cost you. According to Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, the price of ground beef has risen 26 percent since January 2021, when former President Donald Trump left the White House.

Similarly, hotdogs are 25 percent higher than they were in January 2021. The price of chicken has also jumped since Biden and Harris came on the scene. Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, not seasonally adjusted, shows the price of fresh and frozen chicken parts 23 percent higher now than when Trump left office in January 2021. Matters are worse if Americans are looking to roast a whole chicken for their long weekend, as a fresh whole chicken is up 27 percent since January 2021.
And if friends and family are forgoing low carb trends and want to pair their barbecue delicacy with a roll, it is going to cost even more. Fresh biscuits, rolls, and muffins in the U.S. have risen 28 percent since Biden and Harris took office.
Popping a cold one with the buddies is not as cheap as it used to be, either. Beer is now costing Americans 16 percent more than it did when Trump left office.
Side dishes also come at a price. A basic summer side salad can add up, as lettuce is up 21 percent since January 2021, and salad dressing is up 31 percent.
And what is a barbecue without spices, condiments, seasonings, and sauces? That, too, is going to cost a lot more, as those items are 24 percent higher than they were in January 2021.
It does not end there, either. If Americans are planning to travel on Labor Day weekend — meeting friends and family for these pricey cookouts — it is going to cost them at the gas pump, too. Gas prices have risen 50 percent since January 2021.

Rising prices are a reality Americans already know all too well, as grocery prices across the board are up 22 percent since January 2021. As Breitbart News detailed:
Data from the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics show that grocery prices jumped 22 percent from January 2021 — when President Joe Biden and Harris first took office — to July 2024.
This holds true even though the Biden-Harris White House remains in complete denial, falsely claiming that grocery prices went down.
While Americans do not need charts and data to know the reality of rising grocery prices, a Wall Street Journal analysis of NielsenIQ data on the prices of everyday foods shows that Americans are very much feeling the squeeze. The analysis ultimately concludes that a $100 grocery haul in 2019 costs nearly $140 today.

As Democrats continue to attempt to disassociate Harris to the inflationary policies she had a hand in advancing, Americans are not feeling positive about the current trajectory regarding inflation.
A recent survey from the Economist/YouGov showed respondents choosing inflation as a top issue in the country, and 60 percent across the board disapprove of Biden’s handling of the issue. That does not bode well for Harris, especially considering that 96 percent identify inflation and prices as an “important” issue.
As Breitbart News reported:
The Economist poll also showed that Americans are—at least on a subjective level—experiencing more inflation than the official statistics indicate. Twenty-six percent of Americans say inflation is the most important issue, followed by 12 percent who say “jobs and the economy” is the most important issue. That number has not changed very much in recent months—and it is in fact much higher than a year ago, when just 18 percent named inflation as the top issue.
Looking beneath the topline number, we can see that 25 percent of independent registered voters say inflation is their top issue, up from 18 percent a year ago. Among Democrats, inflation has risen as the top issue to 19 percent from 10 percent. Among Republicans, it’s up to 35 percent from 26 percent. Twenty-nine percent of Hispanic voters say it is their top issue, up from 23 percent last August. Nineteen percent of blacks say it is the top issue, up from 10 percent. Twenty-seven percent of white voters say it is the top issue, up from 19 percent.
Meanwhile, Harris’s campaign remains in denial. Harris-Walz Campaign chair Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) appeared on CNN in August and actually blamed inflation on a wider post-pandemic economic recovery.
“It’s the former President who badly mishandled that pandemic, that the economic chaos and the job loss that resulted and the high inflation that resulted from our recovery from that pandemic is not her responsibility,” he said in part, absolving Harris of any responsibility.

Similarly, Harris suggested to CNN’s Dana Bash on Thursday that Bidenomics has accomplished “good work.” When asked why she has not already taken steps to address inflation, Harris replied, “Well, first of all, we had to recover as an economy, and we have done that.”
As Breitbart News fact checked, that assertion — that the economy was in need of recovery when she took office, is untrue:
The American economy was rapidly recovering from the pandemic and lockdowns before Kamala Harris and Joe Biden took office. In the third quarter of 2020, the economy grew at an annual pace of 34.8 percent, according to the Department of Commerce. The following quarter, it grew at an annual rate of 4.2 percent. In the first quarter of 2021, the economy grew at an annual rate of 5.2 percent.
Unemployment, which had soared when businesses were ordered to close their doors during the pandemic, was also rapidly falling. After hitting a high of 14.8 percent in April of 2020, the unemployment rate had fallen to 6.4 percent when Harris was sworn in as Vice President.

The Democrat Abortion Convention

The Democrat Abortion Convention is over. The Democrats have vowed to keep abortion front and center during this election cycle. Their push for abortion is graphically evident at the Democrat National Convention (DNC) by the grisly presence of a mobile abortuary provided by Planned Parenthood (PP). They have virtually nothing else to run on. The record of the Biden-Harris administration has been constructed with one lie upon another, from inflation being only temporary to the strength of our military and economy (with its $35 trillion debt), to “slashing” the deficit, to “the border is secure.” Abortion hurts women and society, a characteristic of this administration, just like their attempted changes to Title IX hurts women.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan (NY) has identified the Democrat party as the “Party of Death.” They have made abortion the centerpiece of their policies, some going so far as to say pro-lifers are not welcome in the party, although about one-third of Democrats claim to be pro-life.
The Culture of Death is a Culture of Lies. In order to support abortion they need to keep the lies coming and obfuscate or deny the truth about life. They have even tried to claim biblical and religious support for their culture of death. This issue is about the dehumanization of life. In Europe and Canada we have seen an increase, not only in abortion (e.g., Ireland) but also euthanasia. As for a biblical perspective, there are many references to being formed in the womb, but this one is pretty clear: “God did not make death, nor does he rejoice in the destruction of the living.” Wisdom 1:13 Other examples include Psalm 139:13, “you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” (Cf. Is 44:2, Is 49:5, Jer 1:5, to name a few) To support the tearing apart of this work of God in the womb is contrary to God’s will.

Another lie is that abortion means freedom. Abortion enslaves the women who have them and is enslaving society. During the 2022 March for Life I heard the witness of a woman who had been pressured to have an abortion in her youth. She listed the lies that she was told throughout the process of getting an abortion. Despite being told that she would recover and heal, she is still suffering. She cannot bear children, and she suffers the pain of no children, no grandchildren, and the loss of the love she failed to give and as a result does not experience herself. This poor woman is still enslaved by that abortion. And she is not alone. Millions of women have similar stories.
They also claim that killing an innocent child is an act of love. They won’t admit that 77% of the population believes that there should be some restrictions on abortion. They lie about the child itself, claiming that it is just a blob of cells although science has repeatedly shown that we are talking about a distinct human child, in the environment designed for him at that stage of life.
They claim they are being denied “reproductive freedom.” Pro-lifers have nothing against reproductive freedom. What we object to is the careless unabashed willingness to kill innocent human beings. Biological science shows that at fertilization a new, unique human comes into being; a baby. News flash: once a woman becomes pregnant, reproduction has already occurred.
