Enemies of Private Property Snitch on Small Businesses for “Price Gouging”

The videos coming out of western North Carolina, of entire towns wiped off the map by flood waters of Hurricane Helene, are both tragic and shocking. Lesser, but serious, impacts have been felt across the entire region. The residents of much of southern Appalachia, Georgia, Florida, and the Carolinas are facing temporary shortages in terms of access to clear water, power, and fuel.

For some social-media bomb throwers, however, the floods are an excellent opportunity to attack both private property and immigrant business owners.

On Monday, Twitter/X user “Washingtons ghost” [sic] posted a video that allegedly shows a gas station owner in Augusta, Georgia charging ten dollars per gallon for gasoline. The poster portrayed this as illegal price gouging. The post has received 1.9 million views.

Lest we think this was a mere fit a pique on the part of “Washingtons ghost,”—who has nearly 150,000 followers, by the way—the larger subtext is revealed if we look at responses to the post. It quickly becomes apparent that while the post’s author is clearly not a fan of private property, he is also troubled by the fact that the property owners in question appear to be immigrants of Indian origin.

“Washingtons ghost” follows up his initial post with a comment on how “All they [i.e, business owners] do is extract.” He then adds that small business owners of foreign origin have “no attachment to the community.” Marx could not have said it better himself.

The same video then received an additional 1.5 million views after being picked up by a self-proclaimed “Paleoconservative” and “MAGA-Hulk” who calls himself “Lucky.” Lucky condemns “legal immigrants”—the scare quotes are his—for providing goods and services at a price Lucky doesn’t like. Another X/Twitter user posts a follow-up video in which the video’s creator celebrates the fact that the business owners—perhaps tired of dealing with the property-hating mob—have closed down for the time being. “We sent the Pakis packin!” the man in the video gleefully cries. So, now no one gets any gasoline, and this, we are told, is a reason to celebrate.

When some readers suggested to Lucky that property owners should be able to sell their property at whatever price they prefer, Lucky declared “I don’t believe in the free market.” Other commenters encourage locals to report the business owners to the authorities, while others demanded a boycott of the business.

These exchanges are illuminating in several ways. The first is that they show how many self-proclaimed “loyal Americans” are no longer interested in defending private property. The general narrative here is that private business owners are somehow required to “share” their property with the mob at prices that the mob demands. Secondly, we discover that, should these business owners not “share” enough, then we are to report the business owners to the state.

We’ve seen this sort of thing many times throughout history, of course. Wherever private property is not respected, some people are sure to demand that the more successful members of the community be made to share the wealth. For example, those who are well versed in the history of the early Soviet Union may feel there is something oddly familiar about these attempts to incite attacks on gas station owners. In the Soviet Union, many rural villages were home to local busybodies who were happy to snitch on their neighbors for “speculation”—the legal name for the “crime” of private enterprise in Soviet times. The mass-arrests and deportations of the Kulaks in Stalin’s time were in many cases facilitated by locals who hated their more successful neighbors. The idea was that these neighbors were not paying their “fair share” and therefore were ripe for being denounced to the local communist authorities.

Essentially, the conservatives and MAGA activists who tell us to turn in local business owners for “price gouging,” are on the same moral plane as the mediocrities of Soviet villages of old who, out of envy, turned against their own neighbors.

Nor is it surprising that these enemies of private property also include an element of a foreign menace in their denunciations of private property rights. The obsession with foreigners is often part and parcel of anti-capitalist ideological movements. The National Socialists, of course, rooted much of their anti-Semitism on resentment against Jewish capitalists. In the Soviet Union, it was also common to tie the “crime” of free enterprise to “Western” bourgeois “decadence” introduced into the Soviet economy by alleged foreign fifth-columnists. The NKVD (i.e., what later became the KGB) was often dedicated to tracking down Soviet citizens suspected of “having, or having had, ties” with alleged foreign elements. Frequently, this just meant Soviet citizens descended from non-Russian ethnic groups.

Reasonable people, of course, have little problem with immigrants who come to the US and build up businesses through investment and hard work. This—in contrast to the criminals and subsidized paupers presently favored by the Biden Administration—is what immigration is supposed to look like. In many cases, these entrepreneurial immigrants are filling a gap in the local market. In the case of businesses like gas stations and dry cleaners, for example, turning a profit requires long hours, few (or no) vacations, and the risk of failure in a highly competitive market. These businesses are often family-owned precisely because profitability relies on cheap family labor staffing these shops for six or seven days per week.

Yet, in an age when small businesses are being systematically attacked and impoverished by the regime, the “loyal Americans” on paleocon social media spend their time attacking the local small-time capitalists for imagined crimes against the community.

Pharmaceutical product recall and educated hesitancy towards new drugs and novel vaccines

    https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/09246479241292008

Of many pharmaceutical products launched for the benefit of humanity, a significant number have had to be recalled from the marketplace due to adverse events.

    A systematic review, 1953 – 2013

    Recalls for 462 pharmaceutical products

In our current and remarkable period of medical history

Excess mortality figures are high in many countries,

often ignored or dismissed by mainstream news outlets.

This excess mortality may include adverse effects caused by novel pharmaceutical agents that use gene-code technology.

    Results

Parallels with past drug withdrawals and gene-based vaccines,

include distortion of clinical trial data,

with critical adverse event data absent from high-impact journal publications.

Delayed regulatory action on pharmacovigilance data to trigger market withdrawal,

occurred with Vioxx (rofecoxib), rof e cox ib

and is apparent with the gene-based COVID-19 vaccines.

    Conclusion

Public health requires access to raw clinical trial data,

improved transparency from corporations and heightened, active pharmacovigilance worldwide.

    Introduction

Strong science, characterised by open mindedness, objectivity, curiosity and freedom of debate,

can be corrupted by capitalist opportunism, deception, political ideology and censorship.

    The global pharmaceutical industry revenue

    390 billion USD (2001)

    1482 billion USD (2022)

    From 1953 onwards

462 + medicinal products have had to be recalled

Median interval, first reported adverse reaction to year of first withdrawal, 6 years (IQR, 1–15)

    Thalidomide

    1957, marketed in Germany

1958, thalidomide was licensed and promoted in the UK as a “wonder drug” to treat headaches, insomnia, and nausea in pregnant women

    Advertisements emphasised safety

catch phrases such as “non-toxic” and “no known toxicity”

1961, first publication on birth defect

    1961, thalidomide withdrawn

2023, Australian Prime Minister announced a “formal national apology to all Australians impacted by the Thalidomide Tragedy”

    FDA scientist Frances Kelsey

Demanded further safety trials prior to market authorisation,

thalidomide was never approved for release in the USA

    Vioxx (rofecoxib), withdrawn, 2004

Concealed adverse cardiovascular events in the Vioxx arm of the study

American physicians, support and finance for research,

defamed, withdrew support, and tried to discredit or “neutralise” those who failed to promote use of Vioxx

    (Federal Court in Melbourne, Australia)

Over 20 million people in the US are believed to have taken vioxx,

of whom an estimated 88,000 to 139,000 suffered myocardial infarctions, with 30–40% fatality rate

(testimony of Dr Graham to the US Senate), https://www.finance.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/111804dgtest.pdf

Merck had created a settlement fund of $4.85 billion

    COVID-19 gene-based vaccines

    The key failure is to have mandated injections in young and healthy adults;

these mandates correlate with excess mortality.

    BMJ Public Health
    https://bmjpublichealth.bmj.com/content/2/1/e000282

Excess mortality January 2020 to December 2022

    47 Western nations,

    over three million excess deaths,

the highest number of excess deaths was reported in 2021

(the year in which mass vaccination began)

Use of the term “vaccine” for novel experimental agents that deploy gene codes may convey a false sense of assurance.

    Key failures

Coercion and mandates, ridicule of educated hesitancy

Western Australia was essentially free of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in 2021.

    Medical research

The crisis rests on pressure to publish,

failure to publish negative and/or unfavourable data,

lack of data transparency, “burial” of data

    poor methodological design of studies,

    statistical errors, carelessness,

inexperience of peer reviewers and editors,

commercial interest, ideological biases, failure to declare conflicts of interest and fraud.

Distorted data, particularly due to commercial bias, is regularly published in medical journals.

“marketing-based medicine” that is at odds with “evidence-based medicine”.

    Illusion of evidence-based medicine

Lack of recognition of pharmacovigilance data

A polio vaccine was withdrawn after just 10 death reports,

the Swine Flu vaccine of 1976 was recalled after just 25 of the ultimate 53 death reports.

    Pharmacovigilance underestimation factor
