ADBE is expected to release earnings. Norfolk Southern (NSC) is lower this morning as CEO was removed due to an improper relationship. An ECB announcement is expected at 8:15 am this morning. Harris Trump debate was the key news event overnight; however, the election is still a long way off. S&P Futures are flat to lower this morning as the earnings and economic calendars are light today. ORCL delivered a positive earnings report last night plus they announced deals with cloud providers. EU regulators uphold fines to AAPL & GOOG. Congress passed legislation to cut off U.S. government funding for Chinese biotech companies deemed national security risks. AAPL’s iPhone release came in as expected. Trade tensions with China remain a concern as exports grew while imports fell.
On Thursday there is an ECB announcement where a rate cut is being anticipated. In Europe, markets are slightly lower, and oil prices are giving back yesterday’s gains as China consumption remains cautious.

On the earnings front, Broadcom delivered a beat last night, but their forward guidance as light. This is a continuing theme being seen on AI related stocks. Salesforce announced a 1.8B takeover of Own Company. Costco reported August sales slightly below expectations. Verizon reaffirms its 2024 guidance after announcing a $20B deal to take over Frontier Comm. JNJ appears to have settled the talc lawsuit by raising settlement offer by$1B. Jeep’s parent Stellantis paused production of two of its top-selling U.S. models, as the company grapples with high inventory levels. In Europe, trading is mixed to lower. Oil prices are gaining this morning on the back of data for the American Petroleum Institute indicating a draw in stockpiles last night.

S&P Futures are extending their losses from yesterday this morning as a wave of selling pressure seen from Asia to Europe overnight. Markets will be paying attention to this morning’s reports on factor orders and job openings. After the bell yesterday GTLB & HQY released positive earnings reports. ZS also beat but lowered Q1 guidance. This morning, DLTR released weaker than expected eps report, DKS and CIEN are on deck this morning. While the U.S. & China’s economic data was slightly disappointing yesterday, markets remain in the red this morning, price action appears overblown. Bank of Canada is expected to announce a rate cut this morning. OPEC is said to be consider a delay to its October production hikes. In Europe, the major three indexes are lower. Oil prices have reversed course and are now trading higher.

Shares of Boeing are under pressure this morning due to a downgrade from a major broker. Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris on Monday opposed the sale of US Steel to Japan’s Nippon Steel. China launches probe into Candian imports and Beijing has also threatened Japan with severe economic retaliation if Japan further restricts sales and servicing of chipmaking equipment to Chinese firms. In Europe, the major three indexes are lower. Oil weakness continues with crude oil trading lower this morning by more than -1.5%.
